Ko wai to ingoa - Collaborative Slides

  • being able to work collaboratively like this is an important skill (share a sample of everyone’s mahi, more efficient, can work together even when not sitting close to each other or even in the same room eg manaiakalani team, share ideas and help each other with problems,) and something that we will do often in our sessions.

  • What can we do when working on this collaborative doc to make sure we are being SMART LEARNERS (using devices in smart and efficient ways, and being respectful to others online)?

  • Only work on your assigned slide (use role to assign slide number)

  • Focus on the task (don’t get distracted by changing backgrounds etc)

  • Get straight to work and complete the task as quickly as possible following the directions given.

  • Shark device when complete.

Sssh! That's Private Information!

We are learning to understand why some information is private and why we as humans like sharing personal information about ourselves.

It is awesome to want to share things with others - actually it’s part of what makes us human (see the slide above).

But some information shouldn't be shared online:
  • address

  • date of birth

  • full name

This information is private and can be used to identify you.

We practiced turning private information into personal information.

Private or Personal - What Information Should We Share?

We are learning to choose which information should be kept private and which information is okay to share.

A few weeks ago we looked at how you can find out information about someone. Cooper shared a whole lot of information in his story - he shared too much! We call the information that keeps us safe private information which means we don’t share it with others.

Today we decided what information Cooper shared that made him unsafe. We split the information into private and personal information.

Here is our list of things that are private and should not be shared online:

  • Date of birth;
  • Home address; and
  • Full name.

This information can be used to identify you individually.

What information can we share online? personal information

Why is it important that we don’t share too much information? Because people could track you down, parents' names or use your information.

Who can look at the information we share online?  Anyone

The Water Cycle

Today's learning about the Water Cycle included recapping prior knowledge of the water cycle and viewing the following videos:

.

AKO

We are learning to:

  • Understand where the planet's water comes from.

Success Criteria:

  • Explain the process of the water cycle.

  • Explain the terms associated with the water cycle.

  • Briefly explain the function of the components of the water cycle.

HANGA
  • Create the water cycle using Google drawing.
  • Use Screencastify to explain the terms: evaporation, condensation, precipitation... and the function of the components.
  • Extension: use Google slides to create an animated water cycle.

Student example (Lesson One):

TOHATOHA: SHARE

I am going to ask students to decide how they will share their learning. Here are some examples that the students have come up with:
  • Share with other classes;
  • School Celebration Assembly - virtual at the moment;
  • Email whanau;
  • Teach the other year 5/6 class how to use Google Drawing to create a water cycle.

Cybersmart - Sorting Information: Cooper vs Ruby

We are learning to understand the difference between private and personal information

Today we learned that we can find information from a range of sources within texts provided.

We read about Cooper and Ruby and worked out what information we can find out about them from their books.

We can find information from the text (writing), for example, the dogs like going to the park and going for walks.

We can find information from images (pictures), for example, the registration plate.

We can find information from audio (sound), for example, the splash of water.

Here is the information we found out from reading Cooper and Ruby's books:

Shortcut Keys

 WALT: practise our shortcut keys, screenshots and taking a photo.

Three things that we learnt today are

  • We recapped how to CRTL C and CRTL V which is copy and paste.
  • I learnt what CRTl X does, it cuts the words out and then you can do CRTl V to paste it.
  • We learnt how to take a screenshot by pushing CRTL - Shift - extend the window button, and the screen went a darker colour/grey and we had to choose what to highlight.

Chromebook Bread and Butter

We are learning to navigate our devices and Google apps to help us to do things faster.

  • How to use shortcuts ie zoom in and out, copy and paste.
  • Screenshot - ctrl + shift + switch window
  • Bookmark -using the star
  • Make a copy - rename it correctly using initials and name, correct folder.
What went well:
  • Highlighting the word to copy and paste it.
  • I read the instructions and that helped me to complete my work.
  • I remembered to use the undo button - shortcut - ctrl z.
